Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo has made history by winning the nation’s first-ever Olympic gold medal and becoming the first African athlete to win gold in the 200m sprints. Tebogo's remarkable performance came on the global stage as he clocked an impressive 19.46 seconds, despite easing up with about 15 meters to go, marking the fifth-fastest time in 200m history.

From the start, Tebogo demonstrated extraordinary speed, immediately pulling ahead and maintaining his lead throughout the race. He left behind US sprinter Kenny Bednarek, who took the silver medal with a time of 19.62 seconds, replicating his performance from the Tokyo Games. The reigning 100m Olympic champion, Noah Lyles, finished in third place with a time of 19.70 seconds,  repeating his position from the previous Olympic Games.

Tebogo’s historic victory marks a significant milestone for Botswana and African athletics, showcasing the exceptional talent emerging from the continent.
